Information Technology in Global Societies

The Digital Society course is an interdisciplinary subject within the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme. Designed for students aged 16 to 19, it explores the impact and significance of digital systems and technologies in today’s world. By combining insights from social studies, media, humanities, and IT, the course provides a comprehensive understanding of how digital advancements shape societies.

Course Aims

This course encourages students to:

  • Investigate how digital systems influence people, communities, and global interactions.
  • Explore key concepts such as identity, power, values, and ethics in the digital age.
  • Analyze data, algorithms, artificial intelligence, robotics, and other emerging technologies.

Structure & Learning Approach

The course integrates concepts, content, and contexts through inquiry-based learning. Students engage in discussions, case studies, and projects to critically assess the evolving role of digital technologies in society. Higher Level (HL) students further explore contemporary digital challenges and interventions.
