Key Stage 4
Years 10 and 11 (Key Stage 4) are two incredibly important years in a child’s education and our aim at DIS is to provide each and every one of our students with a broad and balanced Key Stage 4 curriculum that is tailored to their individual needs and which offers a range of subject choices for their education in the future.
Key Stage 4 prepares our pupils for external examinations. The examinations are IGCSE and GCSE examinations, administered and marked in the UK. These examinations are recognised globally and prepare students for entry to our IB programmes and for University. The GCSE curriculum is a very extensive curriculum, students will need to work hard in lessons but also independently at home. Throughout Key Stage 4 students will be taught a variety of study techniques through subject specialists to ensure all our students are working effectively at home.
Students study English, Mathematics and Science. These are considered as “core” subjects and are taken by all students. Others are chosen from option blocks. Students have a wide range of choices so that they are able to tailor their learning to their interests while maintaining a core group of subjects that will allow them academic options later in their studies. Most students study 9 or 10 IGCSE / GCSE subjects.
In addition to the choices and core subjects available, students undertake PE lessons and Moral Education.
